One of the hot sales in franchise cricket around the globe, Christopher Henry Gayle has stepped into a mess about his participation in the forthcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League.

He was reportedly enlisted by the Chattogram Challengers in the upcoming league but Gayle himself put an exclamatory mark beside his name in the players’ list of the aforementioned team.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury aired clearance on the issue saying documents containing the Caribbean Superstar’s signature was provided to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) authority.

BCB CEO said as quoted by one of the leading dailies of the country that certain procedures are there to be followed before putting a cricketers’ name in the draft list.

“We follow a certain procedure before putting a player’s name on the draft list,”

he said.

“The case was the same with Gayle. The document we were given by his agent contained his [Gayle’s] signature. After you asked me about it, I inspected the document.”

The plight seems to rise more confusion as Gayle earlier announced taking a break from cricket after a futile Mzansi Super League 2019.

“I am not going to the Big Bash. I’m not sure what cricket will come up, I don’t even know how my name reached the BPL, but I have been drafted in a team and I don’t even know how that happened,” Gayle on November 24.

Chattogram Challengers team director and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Jalal Yunus informed they even discussed the payment issue with Gayle in the meantime.

“We picked Gayle at the first opportunity. All our plans were made with him in mind. Now, if he doesn’t come, we will be in big trouble.

“After picking him we held discussions with him about payment. But we have not heard from him for the last few days. Now we hear this… I don’t know where the problem lies,” Yunus said.
