England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on Wednesday, have confirmed the playing XI for the Ashes opener at the Edgbaston.

Ace pacer James Anderson, the all-time leading wicket taker for England, has returned to action freeing himself from the calf injury while the country’s World Cup hero Jofra Archer has missed out what could be his debut match in the elite arena.

From the members who appeared in the one-off Test against Ireland last week, Sam Curran and Olly Stone have also been out of consideration.

Caribbean born Archer has been struggling with a side strain. The team management denied to take any risk regarding the paceman ahead of a grueling five Test endevor.

Explaining the 24-year old pacer’s condition, Joe Root said:

“Jofra is coming back from quite a serious injury. Looking at the conditions, we picked the attack we thought would best take 20 wickets.”

Most significantly, Ben Stokes, the man of the final of CWC 2019 has retained as vice-captain, the position which he lost after the infamous Bristol street brawl in 2017.

Meanwhile Australia skipper Tim Pain said that the Aussies will announce playing XI at the toss.

Australia’s formerly banned trio David Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft all returned to the Test side and are expected to feature in the Edgbaston Test.

Aussie captain Tim Pain said at the press briefing, “We’ve looked at what has happened over here previously. We want to make sure that every Test we go into we are picking the right bowlers for the conditions that we are faced with. We are lucky that we feel we have a lot of bases covered. It’s up to us to come up with the best combinations to take 20 wickets.”
