Shakib becomes first Bangladesh batsman to score 1000 World Cup runs

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan just slammed milestone of 1000 runs in world cup history.

He became the first Bangladeshi batsman and overall 19th batsman in world cup who achieved this milestone.

He embarked on the mega event of ODI world cup with 540 runs from 21 matches,starting with 2007 world cup.But in this world cup he racked up almost the runs that he scored in the erstwhile three showpiece events.

The number one all-rounder mustered 476 runs in 6 matches with 5 fifty plus knock including two centuries.

He scored 75 against South Africa,64 against New Zealand,121 against England,124 against West Indies,41 against Aussies & 51 against Afghanistan.

He had 965 runs in 26 world cup matches under his belt before the match & surpassed the milestone coming in 27 World Cup matches.

Shakib’s 476 runs so far is the highest for any Bangladeshi batsman in a single edition of World Cup.Previously it was Mahmudullah Riad’s 365 runs in 2015 World Cup in Down Under.

He is only 24 runs away from another benchmark of 500 run in a single world cup also as first Bangladeshi batsman.

If Bangladesh Srilanka encounter was not abandoned due to rain,than Shakib could achieve this milestone a bit earlier.

He had a great chance to reach this milestone against Afganistan but he failed cause he got trapped leg before wicket by Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman.Before got out he scored 51.This was fifth 50 plus score of the tournament for Shakib.

Shakib has been the best batsman in the 50 over extravaganza event voted by 48.51 percent votes. Rohit Sharma got 24.16 percent while David Warner 16.69 percent vote.

ESPN cricinfo conducted a survey through their website, while 1544 voters took part & Bangladeshi all rounder Shakib got almost half of the votes.

The star all-rounder has been in rampaging since the beginning of the World Cup with both bat and ball. He guided Bangladesh to an astounding victory against West Indies chasing a monumental total.
