I made many mistakes when I was young, Pant will also learn: Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli backed young gun Rishabh Pant after his failure to capitalize in the World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand.

Pant resettled the Indian innings after they lost four wickets as early as in 24 runs. The 21-year old took his time and did the hard work to score 32 runs when get dismissed off a Mitchell Santner delivery.

Later in the day, captain Virat Kohli appeared with strong defence for the youngster saying he himself also miscued many chances in his early days of career.

“He’s still young. I made many errors when I was young in my career and he will learn. He will look back and think yes, he could have chosen a different option in that situation and he realises that already,” Kohli said.

In their chase of 239, India fall short of 18 runs letting the Kiwis became the first team to book the ticket of the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Kohli said, “He (Pant) is an instinctive player and did well to overcome that situation and stringing a partnership with Hardik (Pandya). I think the way they played after the loss of three wickets, four wickets rather, was quite commendable. I am sure he will reflect on it and he will come out stronger.”

Terming him as the future prospect for India, Kohli said, “The talent is there for everyone to see and the character is there, but, as I said, yes, a few shots (refers to Hardik Pandya), not just Rishabh’s. But that happens in sport. You make errors, you make decisions which are not right at that time and you have to accept it.”
