ICC gives deadline to Zimbabwe Cricket to renew governing body

The International Cricket Council (ICC) have given Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) a deadline which is October 8, 2019 to ‘unconditionally reinstate’ its democratically elected governing body.

The failure of fulfilling the deadline, therefore even can terminate the ICC membership of Zimbabwe Cricket.

Zimbabwe are now under suspension. The country is deprived of all ICC funding following the suspension due to political interference from the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), a government-run enterprise in the country.

According to the ICC statement on Wednesday, it categorically mentions that ZC were found in breach of Articles 2.4 (D) and (E) of the ICC Articles of Association.

The ICC will convene for its next meeting on October 12.

The deadline means that Zimbabwe will not be able to feature in the women’s and men’s 2020 T20 World Cup qualifier, set to be held in Scotland in August-September and in Dubai in September-October respectively.

Zimbabwe has also pulled out of the upcoming triangular series including Bangladesh and Afghanistan in September 2019.

Last week, ZC revealed their inability to stage domestic competitions or fulfill the obligations of the Future Tours Program due to frozen funds.
