The hosts India have ensured a 68 runs lead on stumps of day one of the pink ball Test against Bangladesh as the tourists have literally been thrown out of contest after the first day at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Captain Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 59 while his deputy Ajinkya Rahane was on 23 as India made 174/3 in reply to Bangladesh’s paltry 106 in the first innings.

It was a total demolition by Indian pacers as they took did most of the damage. Accompanying Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Indian pacers were vicious in approach; wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das was forced to withdraw from the game after being struck by a bouncer from Shami. Liton retired hurt on 24 at tea and was later replaced by concussion substitute Mehidy Hasan.

Nayeem Hasan too received a blow to his helmet but carried on to complete his 19-run knock before pulling out due to concussion. Taijul Islam made into the playing eleven when Bangladesh came out to field.

India lost in-form opener Mayank Agarwal early, sent by Al-Amin Hossain for 14. Rohit Sharma too was dismissed by Ebadat Hossain, who claimed his second wicket also in the match.

Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara stitched 94 runs for the third wicket. Pujara reached in his 55 off 105 before becoming Ebadat’s second victim.
