Bangladesh have birthed their maiden World Cup final in any stage of cricket when Under-19 cricketers stormed into the ICC U-19 WC final with a comprehensive six-wicket win over New Zealand in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Thursday.

They will now lock horns with mighty India, the four-time time title holders of the competition in the summit clash on Sunday at the same venue.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy stole the limelight with a swashbuckling century propelling Bangladesh to overhaul the victory target with 35 balls to spare. His 100 off 127 deliveries consisting 13 boundaries  came close when the team was 11 runs shy to cross the Kiwis’ 211/8.

Shahadat Hossain who put on a blazing 40 facing 51 deliveries leveled the score and Shamim Hossain sealed the win with a shot to cross the boundary.

Towhidul Hridoy contributed 40 off 47.

In the beginning of proceeding, captain Akbar Ali won the toss and decided to field first. The bowlers well judged the occasion removing four New Zealand batsmen within 74.

Therefore, an unbeaten 75 from Beckham Wheeler-Greenall and Nicholas Lidstone’s 44 off 74       reformed New Zealand innings but they failed to put on any competitive total in the board.

For Bangladesh Shoriful Islam took 3 wickets conceding 45 runs while Shamim Hossain and Hasan Murad picked two wickets each.

New Zealand will face Pakistan in the third-place play-off in Benoni on Saturday.

The other finalist India slammed arch-rivals Pakistan by 10 wickets to enter their third successive U-19 World Cup final on Tuesday.
