Star Afghan batsman Mohammad Shahzad, after being ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 suffering a knee injury has allegedly slammed Afghanistan Cricket Board officials for conspiring against him.

Claiming his fitness, Shahzad said to the media as quoted by the Sportstar,

“I was training at the nets when the team manager told me that I was unfit and I had to head back home. It seemed they had already asked for a replacement (Ikram Ali Khil), but I did not know that I was unfit.”

31-year old Mohammad Shahzad who represented Afghanistan in the first two matches of the competition despite having a bruised knee that he picked up during the warm-up clash against Pakistan, has been reportedly aggravated the condition which threw him out of the competition.

Shahzad’s MRI report that dated on May 26 showing deplored knee condition raised questioned how he could feature in first two matches for Afghanistan had he have that bad kind of injury ruling him out for rest of the tournament.

“If I was unfit then how could I play the first two matches? The physio told me that I will be alright if I take a bit of rest, and suddenly I was ruled out of the tournament. I have done so much for Afghanistan cricket and this is what happened to me,” Shahzad said.

Team Afghanistan physio also questioned, “If the injury was serious, why did the player feature in the next two games?”

The ACB officials, meanwhile totally refuted with the claims made by Mohammad Shahzad saying the player said so because he was visibly upset.

ACB CEO Asadullah Khan told to Press Trust of India, “What he is saying is completely wrong. A proper medical report to the ICC was submitted and then only his replacement was announced. The team could not have fielded an unfit player. I understand he is upset at not being part of World Cup anymore but the team could not have compromised on his fitness.”
