After the recent failure in longer version matches, Bangladesh have bounced back against Zimbabwe in the one-off Test defeating the touring side by an innings and 106 runs in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Bangladesh gained a massive 295-runs lead in their first innings and it never been easy for the tourists to bat on in the fourth innings against the home spinners.
Spinner Nayeem Hasan claimed a match winning haul of nine wickets and Taijul Islam well-accompanied him with four wickets to seize the win inside four days. The big victory, however ended a six-match losing streak for the hosts. It was also the first win for Mominul Haque as Test captain.
Zimbabwe started the fourth day resuming at 9 for 2, the hosts bowlers soon started removing rest of the batsmen of the opposition. The first three overs of the day went without runs. With pressure mounting, Zimbabwe were losing wickets at regular interval.
At one stage, Zimbabwe lost four wickets as early as in 44 runs. Skipper Craig Ervine and Timycen Maruma offered some resistance scoring 43 and 41 respectively. The Zimbabwean captain lost his wicket being late in responding in a call from Sikandar Raza.
Ervine and Raza produced a 60-run stand delayed the loss at one stage. Raza fell early into the second session but Timycen Maruma and Regis Chakabva stitched another 44-run stand which Taijul broke.
Nayeem completed his five-wicket haul with the wicket of Maruma.
“Everyone did well, and I am happy for the team. We tried to put up a big score and we were able to get that,” said Mominul, who became captain in November.
“I don’t think it is a difficult start to my captaincy career,” he added. “Yes, we have to win more matches but we will do better.”
Zimbabwe 1st innings 265 (Craig Ervine 107; Nayeem Hasan 4-70) & 114/5 (Craig Ervine 43; Nayeem 5-82) lost to Bangladesh 560/6 dec (Musfiqur Rahim 203*, Mominul Haque 132) by an innings and 106 runs.
