In a record galore night during the series deciding third and final T20I between India and Bangladesh in Nagpur on Sunday, Deepak Chahar cuffed the best bowling figure in the shortest format of the game along with becoming the first Indian bowler to grab a T20 hat-trick.

Defending 174 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Indian bowlers were, at one stage, struggling to grip things when Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Mithun were at the crease. Chahar, after providing two early jolts in the third over of the innings, claimed one more wicket in the middle before whiffing off the rest with a hat-trick.

He was adjudged man of the match, and his tally of 8 wickets for 56 runs in 10.2 overs, earning him the Man of the Series award as well.

“I never thought of this, not even in my dreams. I have been trying to work hard since my childhood and my efforts have paid off,”

Chahar said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Rohit was planning to give me the crucial overs and the management wanted to do the same. I always focus on the next ball and keep doing that until I complete my spell,” Chahar said.
