Christopher Henry Gayle – the enigma of world cricket has, in never been, short of delivering dilemmas in his career – in or outside the field.

Just when fairly everyone presumably assumed to see the end of Gayle’s showy international career at the conclusion of the World Cup 2019, the Caribbean giant splashed another rainbow. Yes, he wished to return to Test cricket!

Well, at an age of 39, although the increasing numbers of years beside his name, could neither deplete his form nor fitness, it would be highly improbable for receiving a recall in longer version of the game. But when it is someone like Chris Gayle, any mere unlikeliness could be likely anytime!

But West Indies’ selectors have had other thoughts, they denied to afford Gayle any Test call-up as the 13-man squad for two Test series against India is already hanging in the board and Gayle left-out.

It can be mentioned that Gayle last played a Test match for West Indies in September 2014. With 103 Tests under his belt, he amassed 7,214 longer version runs with a highest score of 333.

Looking for the future prospect of the country, 26-year old Rahkeem Cornwall have earned a maiden call-up.

Off-spinner Cornwall showed impressive performances for Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the West Indies Championship and West Indies ‘A’.

He bagged 260 wickets at 23.90 in 55 first-class games and also having a batting average of 24 including one century and 13 half-centuries.

Apart from that, the interim West Indies selection panel has kept faith with the squad that earned a 2-1 series victory over England earlier this year in the Caribbean, except injured fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican.

West Indies squad for Test series vs India: Jason Holder (c), Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Keemo Paul, Kemar Roach.
