Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Pradeep has ruled out of oncoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash against Bangladesh on Tuesday after being hit on the hand during net sessions today (Sunday).

The blow was quite severe as it caused Pradeep’s finger dislocated. He was taken to a local hospital immediately after Kusal Perera’s hit struck into his finger.

Perera was in the nets when Pradeep’s delivery send the ball flying towards the bowler’s face. In a prompt response of self-defense, he raised his right hand and the ball collided with his finger.

Sri Lanka team manager Asthana de Mel said,

“Nuwan Pradeep has suffered a dislocation. And also, a cut in his small finger on his bowling arm, during practices today.

“He was given treatment at the hospital while the doctors reset his dislocated finger and the cut on his finger was closed with stitches,” Mel said.

“Thankfully his small finger has not fractured, it’s only a dislocation. He is definitely out of the Bangladesh game. The doctors suggest he could play in a week or so wearing a splint,” Mel added.

de Mel further informed that Nuwan Pradeep will take at least a week to recover from the injury and thus he will be sidelined for their next match that is against Bangladesh.

The pacer has been reportedly susceptible to injuries, often facing hamstring related issues, which could consequently put him to rest for months.

It could be a vital loss for the island nation ahead of the big clash; the 32-year old fast bowler played a pivotal role in their win against Afghanistan taking 4 for 31 in Cardiff.

Pradeep has been pick of the Sri Lankan pacers who showed much promises in the mega ICC tournament, better than Isuru Udana and Suranga Lakmal.

Kasun Rajitha is highly likely to replace in the spot of Pradeep. Rajitha is a stand-by and currently traveling with the team in England.
