Skipper Shakib Al Hasan has routed through Afghanistan attack mentoring Bangladesh to a 4 wicket win in the last group stage match of the T20I tri-series on Saturday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city of Chittagong.

Shakib constructed a wonderful unbeaten knock of 70 featuring only 45 deliveries adorned with 8 shots of four and a single six to guide Bangladesh to the coveted victory.

Despite curtailing Afghanistan innings to a below par 138, the home team found it hard to hunt down as they lost several quick wickets in the beginning.

Opening partnership between Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto survived only for 9 runs and both openers departed within 12 runs on the board.

The third wicket partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan saw 58 runs that propelled Bangladesh closer to the small target.

With the departure of Mushfiqur Rahim off the bowling of Karim Janat, Bangladesh lost wickets in quick succession. Mahmudullah Riyad and Sabbir Rahman both were back to the pavilion before hundred runs on the board.

But Shakib guarded against any further sliding down the line and ensured the victory in the penultimate over of the match.

In the initiation of today’s match, Bangladesh won the toss and sent Afghanistan to bat first.

Young off-spinner Afif Hossain claimed two wickets for nine limiting the opposition to 138-7 in 20 overs.

Hazratullah Zazai took 47 off 35 balls in a 75-run opening stand with Rahmanullah Gurbaz before Afif produced double strikes in the tenth over twisting the match to Bangladesh’s favor.

Shafiqullah blistered in the middle overs with an unbeaten 23 off 17 balls.

Mohammad Saifuddin, Shafiul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman all claimed a wicket each.

Both the teams have already qualified for next week’s final with each of them winning two out of three matches they played in the competition.
