Star batsmen duo David Warner and Steven Smith have been selected in the Australia’s T20I squad for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting October 27 at the Adelaide Oval.

Cricket Australia, on Friday have come with the announcement of the 14-man squad.

This would be the first occasion when Smith and Warner will feature in the shortest format of the game for Australia after the infamous Cape Town ball-tampering scandal, that saw both of them suffering year long bans.

With the selection, the duo have returned to all formats of the game for their country after previously earning calls in Test and ODIs.

Both of them featured in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and the Ashes Tests. Smith showcased staggering form in the recently completed Ashes series while Warner went through a bad patch with the bat.

As the ICC T20I World Cup looming ahead at home for Australia, the cricket authorities of the country would hope to have both Smith and Warner running in the side.

The squad will be led by Aaron Finch. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins will spearhead the pace department.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga also sees the series as a preparatory campaign for the World Cup.

“If we perform well in those (Australian) conditions, then it will bode well for our preparations for the World Cup,” he said before heading to Australia.

“And if you perform well on this tour, there will be a good chance of those players making it to the World Cup as well,” he added.
