Taijul Islam has become the fastest among Bangladeshi bowlers to reach into the milestone of taking 100 Test wickets.

The 27-year old left-arm orthodox bowlers achieved the feat in the first day of the one-off Test against visiting Afghanistan. The match is taking place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city Chittagong.

Entering into the match with 99 wickets in his tally, Taijul touched the record when he brought the first breakthrough for the team. He has taken 25 matches to do so.

In the second ball of the 13th over of the match, Taijul dismissed Afghan opener Insanullah Janat which was his century of wickets in Test cricket.

Before that, Bangladesh Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan hold the record of achieving fastest 100 wickets for Bangladesh. He reached into that milestone featuring in 28 matches.

Meanwhile, former spinner Mohammad Rafique was the first Bangladeshi bowler to take hundred wickets in Test cricket. Rafique needed 33 matches to grab the feat.

Taijul’s record in Test cricket is quite impressive. Prior to this match, he claimed seven fifers bowling in 43 innings since he made his Test debut back in 2014 against West Indies.

In Test cricket, Taijul’s economy rate is 3.20.

Fastest 100 wickets in Test cricket for Bangladesh:

Taijul Islam – 25 match

Shakib Al Hasan – 28 match

Mohammad Rafique – 33 match
