Sudden Death of Umpire Naseem Sheikh

Naseem Sheikh, a 56-year old umpire, died after collapsing on a cricket ground while officiating a club-level tournament match in Karachi on Monday.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital and was declared dead. The umpire had reportedly undergone an angiography earlier this year.He was improving slowly after that insident.

One of the match organizers and eye-witness stated,

“He fell down while supervising the match. He was rushed in a ambulance to a nearby hospital but expired on the way.”

This has become the latest incident of death in the cricket field. Back in 2014, an umpire and former captain of Israel’s national cricket team died after being hit by a ball during a match in the southern port city of Ashdod.

Hillel Awaskar who captained Israel during 1982 and 1997 Associate members’ trophy was severely struck on the head while standing at the bowler’s end. He died a short while after being taken to the hospital.
