Bangladesh national team selectors Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar have defended their decision of selecting veteran Farhad Reza and Taskin Ahmed instead of making ways for the youngsters in the national team.

Farhad who made his debut back in 2006, last played for Bangladesh almost five years ago in 2014. Although Farhad becomes a seasoned campaigner in domestic circuit, does he really deserve a spot in the national side at this time?

One of the two-man selection panel, Habibul Bashar tried to guard the decision explaining that despite Farhad Reza cannot be considered as a future prospect, he is just an ‘immediate replacement.’

“He is not having the chance to play but we are keeping him ready. Because he is doing well in the domestic circuit we are keeping him in the preparation camp so that he is ready.

“There are some players who are in the High Performance that we are considering as future prospects. We are keeping players like Farhad too so that we can use him if the team requires,” Habibul Bashar said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Young wicket keeper batsman Nurul Hasan Shohan who had been outcasted from the preliminary squad shredded his frustration in this sort of situation but said he is trying hard to keep himself up to the mark.

“It’s really hard to be motivated in such situations when you are in the national team camp but not included in 35-member squad and top of that I was in a good touch.

“I always try to motivate myself. I think to become a big player you have to be strong mentally. So from that perspective, I try not to keep these in mind,” Shohan said.

Meanwhile Chief selector Minhajul Abedin voiced that though they have not included Shohan in the preliminary squad, he will feature against Sri Lanka A.

“We will be playing him [Nurul] with Sri Lanka A while there will be other opportunities for him as well,” said Minhajul.
